Hamad International Airport, Qatar Airways flag carrier airline, is based at the country’s only international airport. It succeeded the neighboring Doha International Airport as Qatar’s primary airport. It is located south of the country’s capital, Doha. It was formerly known as New Doha International Airport (NDIA), which was supposed to open in 2008. However, after a series of expensive delays, it opened on April 30, 2014, with a ceremonial Qatar Airways aircraft landing from Doha International. On the 27th of May 2014, Qatar Airways and all other airlines moved to the new airport. The airport is named after Hamad, Qatar’s previous Emir. Hamad International Airport has one terminal with 5 concourses, which happens to be the largest airport in Qatar. Concourse A, Qatar Airways aircraft on the apron located west of the check-in area and Main Terminal, features ten passenger gates connected to jet bridges. Concourse B is located east of the check-in area and includes ten passenger gates connected to jet bridges. A modest coffee shop, smoking rooms, family spaces, and an expedited duty-free store are located near the end of Concourse B.
Concourse C features 13 passenger gates connected by jet bridges, two of which are mainly designed for the Airbus A380. Ten distant gates are not connected to Concourse C by a fixed jet bridge. Gates 1–4 are located on the first floor, while Gates 18–24 are located on the ground level. Concourse E is now open for business. Gates 1–4 are located on the first floor, while Gates 18–24 are located on the ground level. (Due to the expansion of HIA, Gates 2 and 4 will be permanently closed.)
There is only one terminal, where there are 5 concourses available. The terminal is used for both international and domestic departures. However, the concourses connect various gates altogether to make it convenient for the passengers.
